What’s your opinion on the Pikmin 4 Koppaites.

Or as most people call them.

“Bootleg Alph, Britanny & Charlie.

this might be a little unpopular but personally, I like them. given how p4 is... all over the place in terms of timeline, I'm glad we got their relatives instead of the actual p3 koppaites.

they add to the worldbuilding of koppai pretty well and they also confirm that p4 is a prequel to 3 (thank god the timeline at least got confirmed in THAT way. now fix the rest) and overall i like the lore they give for the p3 cast.

that being saidddd. i do prefer yorke and nelle. they make sense; both alph and brittany comment on their family members. don however... i feel like if don was someone else without any connection to charlie these three would've come across as less "bootleg." he kind of sticks out and doesn't really contribute much to the overall narrative which really does make his character read as existing only to reference charlie and nothing else.

but i still do like him, even if there's the least to go off for him. personally, i like to write him as being really bitter and jealous over charlie and being a really unreliable source about him. he seems to blame everything about their relationship on charlie so i just think it'd be interesting if it was projection. i mean, most of the times characters in this series complain about other characters they've got something going on (cough cough, brittany's fruit notes and olimar arguing with his damn car, cough.) so i just think it'd be interesting. i honestly ship him with charlie in an inverted way, being purely interested in how their relationship ended and how they had to learn to put up with one another as their lives remained entwined. i have a playlist for them with far too much fall out boy in it, mostly songs from infinity on high, so that should probably explain it to those who know what the fuck i'm talking about.

yorke is pretty solid. making one of alphs many siblings into a character with some degree of plot relevance is neat. given how it's established that their grandfather inspired alph it makes sense that he'd have other siblings in the same profession. iirc, he has a line (or one of them anyway) where he says that alph is better than him at the trade, which i also find pretty silly. as a younger sibling who beat their older sibling's exam results... yeah, the topic still comes up to this day. they're neat.

nelle is also again pretty neat. her being noted to not like talking about her family aligns pretty well with brittany's notes where she only elaborates on her homesickness in writing and only ever mentions her aunt. it adds another layer of depth to both of them; why don't they like to talk about family much? very interesting to speculate about. i also find their differing reactions pretty interesting. brittany despising louie and nelle essentially asking the player directly to not hate him. vets and botanists are both rooted in biology, too.

so yeah. those are my thoughts. i like them a lot, though don leaves... much to be desired. i can change that for myself by headcanoning him as a major fucking prick, though.

pikmin 4 spoilers! it's over a year old now so I don't really feel bad

finishing up my deathless runs of the 4 games, so I'm back in the Pikmin brain. Anyways brainrot about the bootleg Koppaite Trio in Pik 4

They're really cool to me! I love that even though Hocotatians are known to be the treasure hunters, these three form an unlikely trio to find treasure to help solve the food crisis. A skilled mechanic, an ex-ranger, and a veterinarian! I also love that they're each individually connected to part of the Pik3 Trio. How did they meet? Did the Pik3 Trio know about how they're tangentially connected before their mission to save Koppai (ignore timeline shenanigans)?

Don Bergman is also super interesting to me. His nickname for Charlie, his old partner, is Ducky! I know it's comedic that his scar came from him and Charlie fighting over a piece of food, but imagine the angst potential. Imagine the two friends who were once partner rangers being stretched too thin during the food crisis, changing them and tearing them apart. Imagine adding personal stakes.

There be those other two Koppaites from the other set of Koppaites. No I didn't forget about them, I needed to figure out how to draw their head shapes. (The top two sketches are my very first tries)

Made a handy dandy height/size comparison chart for all the characters in Pikmin! There's a huge number of characters in pikmin 4 who use the base models of character creation, and the sizes are consistent. This is the best accuracy I could get, since model comparison isn't viable due to many models being different sizes and getting resized in-game, but here's all the heights written out from tallest to smallest.

5.2cm - Moss 3.5cm - Oatchi (1.6 as a baby) 2.6cm - Collin, Shepherd, other characters with the tall/slim and tall/buff base model, Louie for some reason 2.3cm- Charlie, Dingo, other characters with the medium/chubby base model. Potentially the President, but I can't find or create a good size comparison screenshot. 2.1cm - Brittany 1.9cm - Olimar, Alph, other characters with the smallest base model

-There's a bit of a discrepency on Olimar;s size because of Alph- Olimar's size in early games was 1.9 cm. Alph's is purportedly around 1.6 cm. Since I can't find a source for Alph's size, I'll stick to Olimar as reference only. -Alph is maybe a teensy touch smaller than Olimar in game, but he's actually a bit taller in the menus. We'll compromise and go with a matching height. -Olimar is the same height as the smallest player (Pom for example) -The character creation base models are the same size as the unique NPCs who use the base, for example, Collin is the same size as the tall/buff base. -Interestingly, Brittany and Charlie are smaller than Nelle and Don Bergman, their modern-model counterparts. -Louie's size matches the tallest modern model, interestingly.

Hope this was interesting! I certainly think it is. Maybe i'll do some more size comparisons to unique objects of the world (enemies, ships, etc) in the future if there's demand.

Shouldn’t Yorke appear, since he���s the oldest, or so i’ve been told by Pikmin 4….

Hi! They will all appear as minor rivals to Alph and Brittany around the beginning of Act 2.

I wrote issues 1 and 2 before Pikmin 4 came out (with minor current tweaks), hence why Yorke doesn't appear. But no worries, I found a way to include him later (and still as one of Alphs bros) 🤫

Iplan for Nelle to have a really big role, acting as Brittany's foil.

Sorry I haven't updated much! Been swamped with school work, and PT has become more a small personal project. I have the whole story in my head, just no time to write lol. But I have been thinking about writing more soon.

Some brief design studies

So, it’s stated in game that Alph got a haircut based on Charlie’s hairstyle, I have a hc that Alph grew his hair back out after the events of pikmin 3.

For the second picture, I’ve drawn Charlie like 2 times before this, and it was honestly difficult getting his design down. Don however, this was 100% the first time I’ve drawn him. I see a lot of people give Charlie a duck tattoo so I decided to do the same, the tattoo says “I refuse to sink” in koppaite text btw, Charlie’s hairstyle is supposed to be a mix between a ducktail(lol) hairstyle and a mohawk. For Don, I changed his hairstyle a bit from the canon material, much like I did with Alph and Charlie, mainly so he doesn’t look too similar to the other castaways in this game. Also the scars on both his ears is supposed to be based on doberman ear cropping(big disclaimer, I am very against ear cropping, this is just a design choice.) I included Emily with Charlie and Don cause why not.
